Here’s the latest on the “rolling dollars”: Action for Democracy transferred hundreds of millions even before its foundation

Of course, the largest case of campaign financing fraud in Hungary’s democratic history did not trigger the crowd who’s always so concerned for free and fair elections in Hungary. But neither did the EP’s corruption scandal or other shady NGO businesses in Brussels.

My regular readers will surely remember a story that broke in late November. An intelligence report prepared by Hungarian secret services revealed HUF 3 billion (EUR 7.3 million) in illicit foreign funding behind the election campaign of Hungarian opposition parties. While in June, former PM candidate Péter Márki-Zay publicly admitted to receiving HUF 1.8 billion in support from the U.S.-based “Action for Democracy” (AD) organization, the intelligence report uncovered an additional HUF 1.2 billion in foreign funding.

And as if that weren’t enough, a Swiss organization has also been recently caught red-handed: They provided HUF 887 million in support for Oraculum 2020 Kft., the firm behind the fake news portal Ezalényeg.hu, which is affiliated with Democratic Coalition (DK). At the same time, secret service reports also revealed that HUF 160 million more was paid by AD than the amount assumed so far, which means that instead of the previous HUF 3 billion, a total of HUF 4 billion worth of illicit funding ended up with the Hungarian opposition.

At this point, we must make something clear. In Hungary, the law on the operation and financial management of political parties prohibits parties from accepting financial contributions from foreign organizations and non-Hungarian citizens; it also prohibits anonymous donations. Period.

Did the always-so-concerned members of the international, liberal press corps care to comment on this, or even cover the story? You guessed it.

It’s amusing how it seems that our political opponents get a free pass from mainstream media outlets when they are caught in the act. Just imagine for a second that they had even the tiniest proof of any wrongdoing in the Fidesz-KDNP election campaign. I’m not taking a huge risk by saying that these papers wouldn’t stop publishing articles about it for months. Or maybe even years.

But no, the left-liberals get an exemption. They simply bury the story.

Oh, on burying a story: It’s been a while since I read something about the European Parliament’s large-scale corruption scandal. I wonder what’s going on in the background…
