New government guidelines surrounding tax law on rental earnings make it easier and cheaper for owners to rent out their properties in Hungary. However, several districts in the Hungarian capital are issuing decrees that make it harder to open new tourist quarters in the given districts.
In certain downtown districts, the establishment of Airbnb and hotels now depends on whether the cohabitant residents of the buildings agree. In the 6th district, there is an ongoing debate about a local regulation that would require new apartment hotels to pay a 4,800 EUR (1.5 million HUF) parking related bonus to the local government.
Airbnb renters are advised to check both state level and local regulations before setting up apartment hotels.
