Budapest Airport encourages electric vehicle use in its own and ground handling partners’ fleets. Recently, 76 ground handling vehicles have been replaced, saving the airport about 120,000 liters of fuel per year. This will reduce the CO2 emissions by 300 tons a year.
Roll Schnitzler, CEO of Budapest Airport, said “sustainability has been made one of the company’s main strategic principles at Budapest Airport, and optimizing ground passenger transport has a huge potential for more environmentally friendly operations.”
Budapest Airport has done an excellent job of maintaining its carbon-neutral status for three years, balancing energy production and use. Therefore they have fully offset carbon dioxide emissions.
The company recently joined the NetZero by 2050 initiative, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions from airport operations to zero by 2050 at the latest.
