Budapest’s famous party district is hanging in the balance after residents are set to take a vote over bar closing times in a meeting in February.
According to Portfolio.hu, the District VII Council Assembly has set the referendum regarding the opening hours of clubs for February 18th.
The poll concerns the area of Erzsébetváros, surrounded by Erzsébet Boulevard, Király Street, Károly Boulevard and Rákóczi Road. If people vote yes, bars and nightclubs will have to close between midnight and 6 a.m.
According to sources, residents are likely to vote for the change of opening times, which will have an impact on local businesses and the local economy.
