Plans have been approved to renovate Budapest's Széchenyi Chain Bridge and the Buda castle tunnel, it has been revealed.
According to turizmus.com, the renovation permits and the implementation plans are ready for the project to go ahead.
The Buda Castle tunnel has been in need of refurbishment for some time, and the Chain Bridge was last renovated in 1988. The estimated cost of the projects will come to roughly 18 billion HUF.
The Chain Bridge will see a renovation of the pavement, the road surface, change of lining and the expansion joint.
No renovation work as been done on the Buda Castle tunnel since 1973. The lining lets in ground water, which damages the structure and endangers traffic below.
Reports say that the renovations are a much needed addition to the city, to allow tourists a look at important landmarks that are free of rust, broken stone and graffiti.
Although there are no dates set for the works as of yet, once the plans are official approved, the procurement procedures will be issued in the second half of 2017 so the works can get underway.
