Deutsch says a 'drunk' Péter Magyar should be held accountable for theft

The theft of the phone is now a criminal case, and Magyar's EP immunity must be voted on if he is to appear in court.

Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch has called on EPP head Manfred Weber to make clear whether or not the European People's Party "will maintain the immunity of Péter Magyar", the opposition Tisza Party's leader who sits in the European Parliament.

Weber should make an "immediate" statement on whether the EPP's representatives would "protect Peter Magyar in a totally improper way", Deutsch said on Facebook on Sunday.

He said that by "hiding behind his immunity", Magyar was slipping away from being held accountable.

Referring to a night earlier this year when Magyar went clubbing in Budapest, Deutsch said a drunken Magyar had "pestered underage girls" and hit a guest who made a video recording of him using his phone before "stealing" the phone and throwing it into the Danube.

He said the theft of the phone was now a criminal case, and his EP immunity must be voted on if he is to appear in court.
