The ruling Fidesz party has demanded that booking.com pay Hungarian hoteliers money owed dating back to June. Fidesz MP Kristóf Szatmáry said in a statement that numerous accommodation providers have recently complained about not receiving money owed to them totalling several billion forints, and thousands of small businesses were contending with mounting difficulties. He added that the company was “abusing its size and dominance”. He said Fidesz expected the authorities to investigate and urged the company to pay the Hungarian accommodation providers without delay.
