Fidesz MEP: Votes are lacking for Ursula von der Leyen’s re-election

Ursula von der Leyen’s re-election as president of the European Commission is looking shaky.

Hungarian Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch said on Facebook that “votes are lacking” for Ursula von der Leyen’s re-election as president of the European Commission.

Deutsch added that “it is going to be a close shave”. He said von der Leyen “is throwing everything into her campaign … as a real globalist and a pro-war Brussels bureaucrat she has launched a wild attack on sovereigntist, patriotic and pro-peace forces and politicians to ensure her own political survival.” Von der Leyen “is organising a pro-war coalition from across [the EP’s] political groups, while defaming [Hungarian PM] Viktor Orbán, attacking Hungary and seeking to impose further penalty measures on the country,” he insisted. “According to the pro-war camp the Hungarian PM’s peace mission is a cardinal sin, so the European Commission will boycott informal ministerial meetings held in Budapest under the auspices of the Hungarian EU presidency,” Deutsch said, slamming von der Leyen for “using the apparatus of the European Commission to her own benefit”. “If anything goes against the EU treaties, this certainly is it,” he added.
