Gergely Gulyás, Head of the Prime Minister's Office, said on Tuesday that commemorating the anniversary of Hungary's 1848-49 revolution and freedom fight "has meant that we stand for Hungary's freedom and sovereignty".
Addressing a celebration ahead of the March 15 national holiday, Gulyás said "the heroes of the revolution and the ideals they promoted gave Hungary new directions ... under the motto peace, freedom, and accord" and called for "preserving ties that bind Hungarians".
"We need to do everything for those that now live in war, and also for restoring peace in Hungary's neighbourhood as soon as possible," Gulyás said.
"Let there be freedom, that is Hungary's future should be determined by Hungarians ... we must not give up a single piece of our sovereignty," he added.
