Holocaust denier Horst Mahler will be extradited to Germany, the Budapest Court of Appeal has announced.
Hungarian police confirmed that Mahler had been detained in Sopron on May 15 after seeking asylum in Hungary.
The ruling to transport him to Germany is now legally in force, the court said. According to international regulations, Hungary can keep Mahler in custody until June 16 and he will be released to Germany before that deadline.
The 81-year-old was originally sentenced to 10 years in prison for inciting hate and denying the Holocaust in 2009.
In 2015, he was released early due to bad health and was put on probation. He failed to attend a hearing at Brandenburg an der Havel prison last month and was put under an arrest warrant. He was detained by the Hungarian authorities as soon as he arrived in Hungary.
