House Speaker: Hungary remains an island of peace, security and normality

The speaker said Hungary had always been right that it was in the interest of European people to choose "peace, democracy and prosperity" over "war, dictatorship and impoverishment".

House Speaker László Kövér said Hungary "remains an island of peace, security and normality" in a dangerous world.

During a speech to participants of the Hungarian Diaspora Council and the Hungarian Standing Conference (Maert) on Wednesday, Kövér said "you can always count on the motherland" as long as Hungary had a government oriented towards the nation. "Hungary counts on you, too, always," he added.

The speaker said Hungary had always been right that it was in the interest of European people to choose "peace, democracy and prosperity" over "war, dictatorship and impoverishment".

"We Hungarians have always been right about the need for a change of regime in the Western world," he said, insisting that a political system that operated against the interests of the people "must be replaced".

The US was witnessing such change, he said, and this was in the offing in the EU, too.
