The Hungarian government has announced that it fully supports the refurbishment project of metro line 3.
János Lázár, the minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office, said the government will provide all assistance with the commencement of the refurbishment, and supports Budapest Mayor István Tarlós’s plan of implementation.
The minister confirmed that the government and mayor reached an agreement on Wednesday to send a joint negotiating delegation to Brussels in order to obtain the European Commission’s approval for project funds beyond the originally planned sum of 137.5 billion HUF.
Minister Lázár stated that Brussels has not yet granted its written approval in respect of the original budget. He added that the government conducted a discussion with István Tarlós “in a normal tone of voice”, where the parties also reviewed a number of other metropolitan issues.
Mayor Tarlós said the refurbishment project could start in late September on one section of the metro 3 line, while new bids would be sought to cover other sections.
