Hungarians have well and truly gotten into the Christmas spirit up and down the country this year with a whole host of Christmas markets, activities and attractions.

Christmas markets have opened at Vörösmarty Square and St. Stephen’s Square in Budapest, while Fashion Street and Andrassy Avenue have kicked off their Christmas season with impressive lights, trees and seasonal themed events.

Officers of the civil defense and firefighters brought Hungary’s Christmas tree to Kossuth Square in front of the Hungarian Parliament on Thursday.

The monumental blue spruce is 20 meters high, its trunk is 65 cm wide and weighs approximately 5-7 tons. The main ornament is a 130 cm wide and 30 kg heavy star finial. The tree will also be decorated with 2,400 meters light garlands and with 33,600 colorful lamps.

There are also an array of Christmas events taking place right across Budapest and Hungary during the festive season.
