Hungary's Wizz Air has today launched its direct flight service between Budapest and Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.
The airline will operate the flights twice a week, and the frequency could be increased depending on demand for the service.
Hungary established diplomatic relations with Kazakhstan in 1991 when it became one of the first countries to recognize Kazakhstan’s independence.
Ties between the two nations have been growing stronger and the direct flights between the two countries’ capitals will also serve to boost bilateral realtions.
Nurbakh Rustemov, Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Hungary, said the direct flight connection between the two countries could boost bilateral economic, tourism and trade relations.
Last month, Wizz Air revealed that there will be 4.8 million seats on Budapest flights this year. Last year’s passenger numbers climbed by 23 percent to 3.7 million. Wizz Air is launching a total of ten more routes accessible to Budapest passengers this year.
