Hungarian state-owned railway and bus company MÁV-Volán is offering workers who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus by November 30 two extra days off.
According to MTI, MÁV said a meeting of management and union reps agreed that inoculation is “the most effective defense against the spread of the pandemic”. The sides also agreed to hold talks on mandatory vaccination, “if necessary”, as allowed by government decree. A government decree issued a week earlier gives employers the power to require their workers to be inoculated against the coronavirus “as a condition of working”, “if they deem it necessary in the interest of the safety of people working there”. Employees who do not comply may be put on unpaid leave for a period of one year and may be terminated after that period if they still have not been inoculated. MÁV became Hungary’s biggest employer, with 57,000 people on payroll, after Volanbusz became part of the group at the start of the year.
