Mercedes-Benz to add electric vehicles to Hungarian production line

Mercedes will invest HUF 50 billion to add electric vehicles to their production line here in Hungary.

Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, announced on Monday that Mercedes will build electric vehicles in Hungary. The German company will invest HUF 50 billion on the addition to the production line in Kecskemét.

Minister Szijjártó noted that this is a milestone for the Hungarian economy, Hungarian automobile industry and the Mercedes factory in Hungary. This will be the first time that production of pure electric cars will take place within the country.

The factory will soon be producing internal burning, hybrid and electric cars. Minister Szijjártó noted that with this new investment, Kecskemét’s fate is now guaranteed because they will be able to produce all kinds of cars.

The Hungarian government has provided its support with HUF 15 billion and is set to create 4,400 jobs. The production of fully electric automobiles could start as early as Q4 in 2021.
