The minimum wage for both skilled and unskilled workers has risen by 8 percent in line with an agreement reached last year between unions, employers and the government.
Mihály Varga, Minister of Finance, announced that the gross monthly minimum wage for skilled laborers will stand at HUF 210,600 (EUR 636) and the wage for unskilled laborers at HUF 161,000.
The VKF, a forum of employers unions, and the government agreed to raise the minimum wage for skilled and unskilled workers by 8 percent in both 2019 and 2020.
However, unions recently pressed for the scale of the increase to be raised even further, arguing that GDP growth had beaten expectations and that minimum wage growth is now under overall wage growth.
