The number of Austrian police officers will be increased to effectively fight illegal migration, people smuggling, and other cross-border crimes.
The police said on its official website on Monday that under an agreement signed by the two countries' interior ministers in 2020, Austrian policemen have been helping protect the external borders of the European Union in Hungary, as well as curb illegal migration and people smuggling.
On Monday, 7 police officers joined the 18 already serving in Hungary, and their number is planned to come to 48-50 by the end of the month, to conduct joint patrols with Hungarian colleagues, the statement said.
