Citing data from transmission system operator MAVIR, the Energy Affairs Ministry said the output of industrial solar power plants on August 23, measured every quarter of an hour, reached a record high of 3,334 MW.
The ministry said the previous record had been set in July at 3,238 MW but noted that in 2023 peak production had only been 2,731MW.
The ministry said Hungary's solar energy capacity reached 7,085 MW in August, including industrial facilities, household solar panels and solar power plants produced for their owners' own purposes.
Based on the pro-rata progress, it can already be assumed that after 2022 and 2023, domestic solar energy capacity will increase by more than 1GW this year as well, it added.
The ministry noted that recently the government has taken decisions on awarding nearly HUF 82bn of subsidies to applicants for the installation of home solar panels and battery storage.
The government launched a close to HUF 76bn funding program in January and provided a HUF 30bn top-up for it in July. Under the scheme, households may apply for up to HUF 5m in support, covering two-thirds of investment cost.
