The Paks nuclear power plant is on schedule to be completed on time, it has been announced.
The minister in charge of upgrading the project said the construction of the two new reactor blocks will be completed within the deadline and without any technical or safety compromises.
János Süli told a parliamentary committee that Rosatom, the general contractor for the Paks project, is treating the upgrade as a priority project.
Süli said one of the most important tasks in connection with the project was compiling the request for the implementation permit.
The minister emphasized the importance of nuclear safety, saying that there would be no compromises on the project’s technical aspects.
According to MTI, Hungary has signed a fixed-price contract for the power plant’s expansion and that the European Commission determined it to be a profitable enterprise.
The Hungarian and Russian parties involved in the project are both working to ensure that the share of Hungarian suppliers involved in the upgrade reaches 40 percent
