Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has sent a congratulatory letter to newly-elected Bavarian CSU president Markus Söder.
Söder, Prime Minister of Bavaria since March 2018, was elected President of the region's Christian-Social Union (CSU) with 87.4 percent of the votes.
"The traditionally strong partnership between the Bavarian and Hungarian governing party is an important pillar of Bavarian-Hungarian and German-Hungarian relations," PM Orbán wrote. "Our commitment to Christian values offers a firm basis to solve together the issues affecting Europe's future."
"You can continue to count on my personal and the (Hungarian) government's support," PM Orbán added.
Within Germany - Hungary's largest foreign trade and investment partner - Bavaria accounts for 50 percent of German-Hungarian economic relations.
