Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has met dignitaries from the Hungarian Reformed Church to discuss the government’s agreement with the church designed to regulate government funding for its activities.
According to MTI, the agreement will regulate government funding for religious education in public schools, for the Lutheran University of Religious Studies, the establishment of a hospital, reconstruction of some 50 vicarages and other projects.
At the meeting with Bishop Péter Kondor and Sándor Font, the supervisor of the southern Hungarian diocese, PM Orbán praised the church’s role in education and social work, and said the church and the government were “good partners”.
Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén and Zoltán Balog, the commissioner for social affairs, were also in attendance.
