PM Orbán nominates Judit Varga as new Minister of Justice

Under Varga the Justice Ministry will assume the tasks related to the country’s European Union affairs, previously with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has appointed State Secretary for EU Relations of the Prime Minister’s Office, Judit Varga as Hungary's new Minister of Justice.

According to MTI, the position will become vacant as the current minister, László Trócsányi will be part of the ruling Fidesz’s MEP group as the head of the party’s list. He will also be Hungary’s candidate for the EU Commissioner position Hungary will hold in the new European leadership.

Government spokesman Bertalan Havasi said that under Varga the Justice Ministry will also assume the tasks related to the country’s European Union affairs, previously with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Varga has a law degree from the University of Miskolc and speaks five languages. She is married with three children. Her appointment is pending the approval of President János Áder.
