A fresh poll has found that the popularity of Péter Márki-Zay, the prime ministerial candidate of the united opposition, has fallen further, with 68 percent of respondents seeing him unfavorably.
According to the poll by the Századvég Foundation, which was conducted among “politically active” Hungarians, the ratio of those supporting Márki-Zay fell to 29 percent from 33 percent last month. Márki-Zay’s popularity has fallen constantly since he won the opposition nomination last October, with the ratio of those rejecting him growing from 47 to 68 percent, the pollster said. Among those supporting the united opposition, 16 percent see him unfavourably, as do 26 percent of leftist voters, it said. Among voters identifying as centrist, 54 percent reject and 40 percent support him, it said. He is popular with 12 percent of undecided voters, it said. In Budapest, 61 percent of respondents said they rejected Márki-Zay, and 37 percent supported him, a plunge from January when sympathizers were up at 42 percent, against 52 percent of voters rejecting the candidate, Századvég said.
