President János Áder has praised “national cohesion” and the help the public has given to people in need due to the war in Ukraine, the pandemic, and natural disasters.
President Áder told Kossuth Rádió that “the tradition of national cohesion runs deep in Hungary.” The president said he and the First Lady had offered one million forints (EUR 2,700) to help refugees. Most of the aid is flowing through large charity organizations, coordinated by the National Humanitarian Coordination Council (NHKT), he noted. He thanked law enforcement agencies and local authorities for their work, as well as state-owned railway company MÁV which has transported 10,000 people inland from the border free of charge, as well as private donors.
