Slovakia officially took over the cultural presidency of the Visegrád Four from Hungary on Friday with the occasion marked by a closing ceremony organized in Nagymaros.
Marián Varga of Slovakia took over the cultural presidency from Hungarian government minister, Tibor Navracsics.
“When we talk about culture, everyone first thinks of the community. Community and retention. After all, we humans are isolated individuals, alone, without friends, without loved ones. If we can’t manifest, then we don’t really matter,” the outgoing Navracsics said at the event. “That is why culture is more than mere entertainment. It creates communities, keeps communities, and strengthens communities”, he added.
Also in attendance was State Secretary for Culture Péter Hoppál, who praised the advance in cultural cooperation between the four nations over the past year.
“The two outstanding pillars of the Hungarian presidency of the V4 were the strengthening of the Visegrad four’s cultural logistics and a deeper understanding of each other’s culture,” Hoppál said.
“Our cultural diversity and wealth predestined us to be able to work together for the sake of peace and security through their presentation and cooperation,” he added.
