Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller has revealed that the average age of Covid cases is now lower than during the first wave in the Spring.
Earlier this year, the coronavirus was mainly affecting the elderly, now it is targeting those from the 20-29 age group. The virus may not present as deadly to those in this age range as some can be asymptomatic.
The CMO said the issue we face is the younger generation spreading the virus to those most at risk, the elderly. However, Müller said that “we are now more acquainted with the nature of the virus, the spread of the epidemic.” Based on international practice, Hungary along with Austria and other countries has reduced the mandatory 14-day quarantine to 10 days as of Monday.
According to koronavirus.gov.hu, registered coronavirus infections hit a record high on Sunday with 1,070 positive cases over a 24-hour period. Therefore, Müller has urged the young generation to follow the rules so as to help stop the spread of the virus.
One of the new rules as of Monday includes wearing proper masks instead of scarves or other materials that cover the face. Fines can now be expected for violators and establishment owners if they are found to not be following the mask-wearing guidelines.
