“Until Ukraine adopts legislation to restore the rights of Hungarian national minorities, Hungary sees no point in a highest-level meeting,” the foreign minister said.
The government has earmarked two billion forints (EUR 5.2m) for supporting Hungarian organizations across the borders.

“Supporting those schools is important for the government because the youth attending them are key in the future existence of Hungarian diaspora communities,” Péter Szilágyi said.
An immediate ceasefire and peace talks are needed, followed by a diplomatic settlement that can guarantee long-term peace and security in central Europe and on the entire continent, Minister Szijjártó said.
Péter Szilágyi said the relationship between the diaspora and Hungarians of the Carpathian Basin was deepening thanks to the work of the past years.
Minister Szijjártó said NATO’s plans to convene a ministerial-level meeting of the NATO-Ukraine committee undermined NATO unity.
The foreign minister said Hungary had been criticized for taking its position to the UN Security Council, adding that it had been frowned on that a country from “the European choir” should “sing solo in international organizations”.
Gergely Gulyás said the Hungarian government professes the principle of the “unified Hungarian nation” and “bears responsibility for each and every Hungarian".
Hungary calls for a ceasefire and peace negotiations as soon as possible and will continue to refrain from sending weapons or soldiers to Ukraine.
