Moldova signed the association agreement with the EU eight years ago, which PM Orbán called a “painfully long time”.
The meeting took place in the historic castle of Gyula, where President Novák set up her office during a three-day visit to Békés County.

The foreign minister said Moldova’s European integration was progressing at a good pace.
Minister Szijjártó highlighted the geopolitical appreciation of the Eastern Partnership program and urged the earliest enlargement of the EU as well as promoting closer ties with countries in the region.
PM Orbán and Natalia Gavrilița discussed the situation in Ukraine, including the refugee crisis.
Minister Szijjártó the Hungarian government was working to ease tensions and promote dialogue between East and West.
Hungarian and Moldovan citizens vaccinated against coronavirus can travel into each other’s countries without mandatory quarantines or negative test results from Tuesday.
“It is in the interest of the European Union as a whole to establish strategic partnerships with countries on its eastern borders, including Moldova, and to keep EU membership and economic cooperation open,” said PM Orbán at a joint press conference with Ion Chicu, the Moldovan Prime Minister.
During an already planned official visit to Moldova, PM Orbán will also hold talks with Moldova’s president and parliamentary speaker.
“The EU needs success stories; and the Eastern Partnership could be one, in which the Republic of Moldova has a very important role to play,” the foreign minister said.
The two leaders discussed opportunities in boosting bilateral economic and trade relations between the two nations, and exchanged views about international affairs affecting Hungary and the Republic of Moldova
