Minister Szijjártó said on Facebook that the current economic, political and moral crisis of Europe was clearly visible even from the other side of the Atlantic.
Minister Szijjártó welcomed the fact that it was once again confirmed that the US administration considered the Hungarian government a friend, and considered developing bilateral relations important.
Minister Szijjártó said Marco Rubio had insisted that peace talks had offered the only realistic chance for bringing an end to the killing.
Minister Szijjártó said the most important topic currently was "brokering peace in Ukraine".
The meeting will take place at 5pm CET today in Washington, D.C.
The US and Russia agreed that they would continue the dialogue and discussed restoring political and economic ties.
Minister Szijjártó said the sides would discuss rolling back sanctions that hurt Hungary's interests and advancing bilateral cooperation.
"It is time we talked about the real path to peace," said Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky.
Minister Szijjártó said Donald Trump's inauguration marked "a new era in world politics".

Minister Nagy said the government is eagerly awaiting the start of Donald Trump's presidential term.
David Cornstein said the "move by outgoing ambassador David Pressman" was an example of the current US administration's hostile stance towards Hungary, "right down to the last hour".
