The foreign minister urged the avoidance of any escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
Minister Szijjártó said the Abraham Accords should serve as an example for resolving other similar conflicts around the world.
A stable Netanyahu government in Israel and Republican majority in the US Congress would be the “most promising and hopeful development” for peace and security in the Middle East.
“Peace and stability in the Middle East are in Europe’s fundamental interest,” the foreign minister said.
The foreign minister said the situation in the Middle East is a key issue for Hungary for several reasons, including regional security and migration waves.
The foreign minister stressed the need to eliminate the causes of migration and then enable refugees to return to their homeland.
Minister Szijjártó was the only EU foreign minister to attend the signing ceremony of the peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
“Hungary continues to support the US’s peace efforts in the Middle East,” the foreign minister said. “We stand by Israel and we stand by the position that Israel should not be held to double standards.”
Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, will be the only European Union minister to attend the signing of Israel’s agreements with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain on normalizing diplomatic ties in the White House next Tuesday.
The foreign minister said it was an “honor” that Hungary has received a ministerial-level invitation for the signing of the agreement to be held in the White House garden next Tuesday.
The foreign minister said Hungary opposes all EU declarations that would reduce the chances of implementing the US plan.
