The defense minister ordered the deployment of Hungarian servicemen to the east of the country on Tuesday in light of escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
Tibor Benkő said a peaceful solution to the standoff between Russia and Ukraine through dialogue is in Hungary’s interest.
Minister Benkő said Hungary’s armed forces were strong thanks to the country’s military development program.
Minister Benkő stressed that the parties must settle their differences through diplomacy and negotiations.
Minister Benkő discussed regional security and military cooperation, among other issues, with Oleksii Reznikov, his Ukrainian counterpart, in Budapest.
Defense Minister Tibor Benkő said Europe was surrounded by migration, which brought dangers “that could lead to tragedy if we don’t deal with them effectively”.
Minister Benkő said the Georgian and Hungarian governments represented similar European values as well as the goal of contributing to efforts to stabilize the fragile global situation.
The event was opened by Defense Minister Tibor Benkő and Hungarian army chief Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi both on Saturday and Sunday.
The defense minister thanked the forces for completing the evacuation “in the line of fire bravely and in a well-organized manner”.
Some 87 percent of “Afghans with ties to Hungary” were also evacuated, including 57 families and 180 children.
The government’s goal is to have a competent and well-trained military comprising loyal soldiers equipped with modern equipment.
Tibor Benkő said that to ensure the country’s security, the government has embarked on Hungary’s biggest ever military development scheme.
