“Peace and stability in the Middle East are in Europe’s fundamental interest,” the foreign minister said.
The foreign minister said Hungary has an opportunity to contribute to the start of a dialogue between the sides that stand against each other.
The war that broke out 146 days ago has brought suffering not just to Ukraine but also to its neighbors and the whole of Europe, Minister Szijjártó said.
As a neighboring country of Ukraine, the foreign minister said Hungary was fully aware of the “tragic consequences” of the war.
Péter Szijjártó said the war has sparked a humanitarian crisis in Europe, and it is Ukraine’s neighboring countries — mainly Poland and Hungary — that have to bear the burden of taking in refugees.
