FM: Cooperation with Spain is a priority for Hungary

The foreign minister said Gestamp and Ames, two Spanish automotive companies, will increase their capacities in Hungary by about HUF 5 billion.

During a press conference in Madrid, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, has announced that Gestamp and Ames, two Spanish automotive companies, will increase their capacities in Hungary by about HUF 5 billion.

Thanks to the agreement reached, Gestamp will carry out a development worth HUF 850 million at its battery assembly plant in Mór while the investment of Ames to modernize the production process of automotive metal products in Szentgotthárd will be worth HUF 4.1 billion.

"This is another victory for Hungary in the global competition for the redistribution of world economic capacities," Minister Szijjártó said, adding that the Hungarian government will provide HUF 1 billion to support the investments. There are currently 220 Spanish companies present in Hungary, employing more than 5,000 people, thus "cooperation with Spain is a priority for Hungary," he stressed.

Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha González Laya said the main areas of interest of Spanish companies investing in Hungary include the automotive industry, hospitality, renewable energy and transport. She also added that Iberia will relaunch its direct air connection between the two countries, which was suspended due to the coronavirus epidemic.

Later on, Minister Szijjártó addressed the inauguration ceremony of the street named after Ferenc Puskás, the legendary footballer of Hungary's Golden Team and Real Madrid. The foreign minister also attended the opening ceremony of Hungary's new consulate in Malaga.
