FM: Egypt’s stability and security are in Europe’s vital interest

Minister Szijjártó said the effects of the security crisis in the Middle East were already palpable in the world and there was a risk of the conflict escalating regionally and globally.

Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said Egypt’s stability and security are in Europe’s vital interest and are paramount in terms of preventing the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

Minister Szijjártó held talks with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Hassan Shoukry on the sidelines of a regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. Minister Szijjártó said the effects of the security crisis in the Middle East were already palpable in the world and there was a risk of the conflict escalating regionally and globally. He said the international community’s primary task was to prevent the crisis from escalating and Egypt played “a critical role” om this, adding that “with its moderate, wise and cautious approach” Egypt had always contributed to stability in the region and to maintaining security in Europe by holding back the waves of illegal migration. He also thanked Egypt for its continued mediation efforts since the outbreak of the war in Gaza. He thanked Shoukry for his diplomatic help in evacuating Hungarian citizens from the Palestinian enclave. Meanwhile, Szijjártó praised bilateral relations, noting the ongoing manufacturing of railway carriages for Egypt under the largest order ever received by Hungary’s transport industry.
