After talks with the leaders of the Hungarian Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (VMSZ), House Speaker László Kövér said Serbia "has much to hope from Hungary" during its European Union integration.
Speaking in Subotica (Szabadka), in Serbia, on Tuesday, Kövér said Vojvodina Hungarians would be a link between Serbia and Hungary as well as Serbia and the EU.
One of the most important tasks is to preserve the Hungarian community, especially youth, he said. Hungary would make further efforts to ensure they can make a living in their homeland, "and the numbers seem to show that Serbia is standing before unprecedented opportunities."
Kövér is scheduled to meet Serbia's president, prime minister and the speaker of parliament today to discuss expanding bilateral relations and ways in which Hungary can help Serbia's EU integration.
