Hungary backs Poland’s call for presidential election in Belarus to be repeated with international monitoring

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Saturday said the election should be rerun with international observers monitoring the polls.

Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said Hungary backs Poland’s call for the presidential election in Belarus to be repeated with international monitoring.

According to MTI, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Saturday said the election should be rerun with international observers monitoring the polls.

Minister Szijjártó said: “It’s not an exaggeration to say that the phone lines are lit both at the prime ministerial and the foreign ministerial level in connection with the developments in Minsk.”

The minister said he held talks with his Latvian, Estonian and Lithuanian counterparts on the situation in Minsk on Monday morning before consulting Prime Minister Viktor Orbán who had spoken with Morawiecki by phone.

Hungary’s decision to support the Polish position on the situation in Belarus “demonstrates once again the strength and importance of the Visegrad Group,” Minister Szijjártó said.
