The foreign minister has announced that Hungary has accredited an ambassador to Liberia for the first time; the diplomat stationing in Ghana presented his credentials to President George Weah recently.
Following the very first Hungarian-Liberian foreign ministerial meeting with his counterpart Gbehzohngar Milton Findley on Monday, Péter Szijjártó said he had presented Hungary’s request for establishing a honorary consular office in Liberia.
According to MTI, the two ministers signed a declaration of intent on creating a mechanism for regular inter-ministry consultations.
Minister Szijjártó said Europe’s security started in Africa, so European countries should implement schemes that help prevent African nations from becoming sources of migration. Hungary will call on the European Union to provide substantial support for Liberia during its next financial framework, he said. Sz
The minister also mentioned border control, the fight against terrorism, energy supply and agriculture as potential fields of bilateral cooperation.
From next September, Hungary will grant state scholarship to ten Liberian students in Hungarian universities, he said. Findley said Liberia would welcome Hungarian investors in forestry, fisheries, agriculture, mining, tourism and science.
