Hungary is on the right track ahead of hosting the 2017 FINA World Championships, according to FINA President Julio Maglione.
The assessment comes after a review by FINA of Hungary's preparations for the 2017 FINA World Championships.
The meet will be held in Budapest, Hungary from July 14-30, 2017, and is a major part of the world swimming circuit, writes swimswam.com today.
According to Maglione, construction of the new swimming arena is progressing better than expected, so the facilities should be ready well ahead of the deadline.
The new aquatic complex for the competition will include 3 venues within a 3 kilometer radius of each other.
The 2017 World Championships were originally set to take place in Guadalajara, Mexico. However, the Mexican Swimming Federation pulled out of hosting the meet for economic reasons, including the high cost of hosting the event. Following Mexico’s withdrawal, Budapest assumed hosting duties.
The World Championships will serve as the championship event for six different aquatic sports: pool swimming, open water swimming, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming, and high diving.
The Palace of the Pools venue will play host to pool swimming, synchro swimming, diving, and water polo, while open water and high diving will take place at Lake Balaton, about 120 kilometers outside of the city center.
