Hungary's foreign minister has said that it is in the security interests of Europe and Hungary to forestall thousands of migrants from Myanmar, the country formerly known as Burma.
Speaking from Naypyidaw, Myanmar’s capital city, Péter Szijjártó, minister of Foreign Affiars and Trade, said that Hungary supports Myanmar’s efforts to overcome the current crisis developing in the country.
The minister said that Hungary supports the country's reforms needed to build the democratic institutional system and stabilize the economy in order to overcome the political and economic causes of migration.
He also said that Hungary has offered favorable credit for projects in the area of water management and agriculture, which are important from an economic development point of view. Hungary also supports Myanmar in international organizations.
The minister added that there are several Hungarian firms on the Myanmar market that are aiding the digital economy, thereby enhancing the country’s competitiveness.
