New data shows that the rate of growth in the number of marriages was the fastest in 2019 during the past thirty years.
The Central Statistical Office (KSH) said in a statement that a “wedding boom” had taken place in 2019. By the end of September, more people had tied the knot than in the full year of 2018.
Last year, 62,000 couples got married in Hungary compared to 36,000 in 2010.
The number of marriages had been declining steadily since the mid-1970s, but the trend bucked after 2010, with their number doubling between 2010 and 2016.
