In the recent episode of “The Bold Truth About Hungary” podcast, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó discussed the changing nature of foreign policy in the modern world with host Zoltán Kovács.
The foreign minister said that as a result of a single-bracket tax system introduced in 2010 and the lowest taxes in Europe, Hungary now has a record high employment and economic growth, as well as record high volumes of exports and investments.
Gergely Gulyás said the EU’s sanctions have put the European economy in an impossible situation, “or at least in a very difficult one”; Hungary and the EU are in disagreement on the latter point.
Hungary has done more than enough to reach an agreement with the EC, “but it seems the body is unable to form an objective opinion, and so the European Council will be hopefully more reliable in the conditionality procedure,” Gergely Gulyás said.
The defense industry is essential, not just because it creates jobs and promotes further economic growth, but also because it ensures more favorable and competitive prices.
"The brutal aggression of Russia on Ukraine brought a new reality really in security and in security planning and everything that we do," the defense minister said.
"We are now opening a new phase in our development program, which is taking on board the newest technology and then combining everything together in a strong national army," the defense minister said.
"The 2% increase made it possible for us really to start systematically replacing the old Soviet-style equipment with modern NATO-compatible high-tech equipment," the defense minister said.
